On November 7, Health Affairs held a virtual event highlighting how states have promoted Medicare and Medicaid integration and how federal policy can better care for people who are dually eligible.
A unifying goal for managing care for people dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid is full financial integration between the programs. However, financial integration alone is insufficient for solving system fragmentation.
Significant improvements in care are possible without full financial integration.
States have adopted a variety of approaches to programmatic and clinical integration, even in the absence of full financial integration. For example, administrative processes can reduce enrollment churn, enabling more integrated care.
Drawing in part upon articles in the Health Affairs Forefront series “Medicare and Medicaid Integration,” supported by Arnold Ventures, this event will highlight a range of approaches states have taken to promote integration and how federal policy can better care for people who are dually eligible.
